How to Kill Demotivation?

- By S.P

Living in the moment is a surreal experience. Feeling trapped with no means of escape? Now, that’s a whole different dilemma. Facing constant responsibility can sometimes make life feel like a chore. While stability is a prerequisite of human existence, it is up to us to introduce purpose and little bits of joy among the necessities. This article illuminates how to go about precisely that.

  1. Get it together and goal-set

Vision boards, resolutions, budgets, bucket lists - there’s a whole list of planning devices at your disposal. Take time to plan out the direction in which you want your life to head. Though it may seem intimidating now, envision how good it’ll feel when you inevitably tick those goals off. Nobody is saying to reach for the stars because realism is key. But, having clear goals in mind for the future gives you something concrete to work towards in the present.

  1. How to decide what you want

I’ve added a sub-section on goal-setting because many people get stumped right at the beginning. Unsure of what you want? There’s a whole world waiting to inspire you. A good rule of thumb is, generally, if you admire something, set an intention to incorporate it into your life. Pinterest, your friends, and even your daily surroundings are great sources either to emulate or improve upon.

  1. Don’t choke before the curtain rises:

Now that you’ve outlined your goals, focus on materializing them. The hardest part is deciding what you want out of life. With this out of the way, you can begin establishing how to go about leveling up. Create a timeline and take small steps to ensure that you stay on track. Mini-goals to achieve your end goal, if you will. All things come in good time; it is essential to remember that slow progress is still progress, and failure is part of the journey.

  1. Backtrack & check yourself:

Every so often, revisit your goals and evaluate your progress. Are you doing too little or burning yourself out by doing too much? Have you lost the plot entirely? These little oversights leave the door open for demotivation to creep in. Constantly checking where you are in your journey will allow you to refocus and lock in.

  1. Take the win:

The reward system works - tried and tested. Every milestone along the way to achieving your goals is a win. Making it to this point has taken sheer dedication and effort on your part alone. Remember to be kind to yourself. Fulfilling your goals is hard work, and you deserve that pat on the back. It’s great for refueling your motivation tank, too!
